In solar energy systems, electricity generation stops when sunlight is insufficient. For this reason, batteries are one of the most critical components of solar power systems. Energy generated during periods of adequate solar irradiance is stored in batteries, and the electricity required after sunset or during adverse weather conditions is supplied from this stored energy.
Commonly used battery types in solar applications include lead carbon, lead-acid, gel, VRLA deep-cycle batteries, and lithium-ion technologies. Each battery type offers different advantages depending on criteria such as service life, discharge capacity, resistance to climatic conditions, and maintenance requirements.
